So around this time last year I was contacted by American Greetings to design a collection of greeting cards that would be exclusive to Target – and after what seems like forever, they’re finally here. There are 18 cards in the collection, each of them featuring foil hot stamp and embossing. I have yet to see one of my cards in person, but they’re available at most Target stores through May 12th if you’re still looking to pick up a sweet card for you Mom, Grandmother, or Sister.

Here is a small sampling of a few of the cards I designed:

In the store, on their own endcap (so proud):

I’m super excited to share my new piece created for LGAL’s “Beautiful Forever” exhibition. It’s a show all about the art of tattoos, and a portion of the show is actually being produced as temporary tattoos – so exciting. As a huge fan of americana-style flash art I wanted to give a tongue-and-cheek nod to Sailor Jerry-esque designs with my piece for the show.

See my work, along with a bunch of other talented folks’ at the opening in Minneapolis on March 22nd, OR check out the online shop and buy some sweet artwork, and pick up my design here.

Hola! I hope everyone had a stunning weekend, enjoying the Oscars and such – I know I did! Just wanted to share a project I worked on in the Fall that is finally launched.
Hey internet! It’s been a while – just thought I’d check in and let you know that, yes, I am still alive. I’m working really hard on a bunch of awesome projects, both at Target, and otherwise. I’ll be sharing more projects on here soon as they’re released into the world.

I hope everyone is enjoying their Winter/February. It apparently can’t stop snowing here in Minnesota. I’ve never wanted Spring so badly! It hasn’t been THAT bad, but I’m starting to forget what grass looks like, since there have just been mounds of snow around since November. What a beautiful, slushy terrain!

There isn’t much news to share except that this website is brand-spankin’ new – I hope you like it! I set it all up and deleted it all by accident, so it was built twice with love for your viewing pleasure!

I’ve already shared my beautiful American Greetings / Carlton Card on instagram and Facebook, but here’s a quick look at the design, and the other two I did for American Greetings around this time last year. They were just released, although I’ve only come across the vertical design so far – so if you spot these other designs in the wild, please let me know! It’s so exciting to see this project come to life!

Here are the two designs I made that I haven’t found in stores yet! As you can see, they made me design these cards free of copy – so I do not take responsibility for the message or lettering. These designs are a little more flat than I’ve been working recently – we actually went through a few different versions before settling on this level of detail/texture.

Here are the sketches I did for the project as well! Stay tuned as Mother’s Day rolls around for another (larger) project with American Greetings to appear!

Being a fan of “The Bachelor” and “The Bachelorette” I jumped at the opportunity to design this Valentine’s Day personalizable for Cardstore.com! I thought it was a really cute concept for a design and it was a ton of fun to work on. It’s also really neat because can customize the card, your message, and everything, and send it in the mail to your loved one!

Happy New Year everybody! I hope everyone’s 2013 is off to a good start – I know mine is going pretty swell. A lot of things happening actually. It’s been a while, but I promise I am still alive!

2012 has meant a lot of changes – A new job in the same state (a miracle, I know), I’ve started teaching an online course for MCAD, and I’ve got a lot of fun freelance projects going. I can’t share many things for a while, but here’s a little teaser of what’s been happening.

These are two separate pages for AARP magazine’s crossword puzzle pages, one for October – Halloween themed, and one for December which is appropriately bird themed. These were super fun to work on, a huge thank you to my AD Joanna Foucheux for the awesome projects!

Cool news! Not only is the card I designed for American Greeting’s Cardstore.com available for purchase, it was featured (for a second) in their holiday commercial!

I just got an email today telling me to check it out, and it took a few plays to find in the video (it shows up right at the 42 second mark). So exciting! I’ll post a higher resolution version of my design as soon as I can!

Below is the card, and a screenshot from the commercial:

You can view the commercial here, and purchase the card here.

I also designed this card, which they changed a little bit from my original. It’s still cute though, and you can still buy it!

If you haven’t heard already, Light Grey Art Lab is at it again with their new exhibition Tarot, Mystics, and The Occult. The show opens this Friday, Oct. 26th (just in time for Halloween fun).

78 artists have joined forces to create an original tarot deck based off of the classic Rider-Waite tarot deck. If it wasn’t cool enough, each artist had their tarot card drawn at random – a small pre-show fortune perhaps?

The card that was chosen for me was the Nine of Swords. Although not a very positive card, it’s one that is really relatable for us worry-wart artist types. Check out my rendition below. You can also purchase the full deck from the LGAL shop.

Visit the Light Grey Art Lab shop here.

The Nine of Swords:

This card has a lot to do with someone’s mind and their doubts and pain. The card shows a person, most often a woman, lying down or sitting up but they are/ were sleeping. When this card is reversed it can be about real or imagined doubts or pain, just as dreams can be about real or imagined parts of our life. Most often the person on the card is on a bridge symbolizing a person between the worlds of dreaming and reality or also the worlds of life and death.

Above the person is their fears, hanging above them in an airy or dreamy way, this can be represented through demons, devils or even a heavily agitated night sky. Often there are sharp objects such as swords or knives, representing that a persons fears may pierce or stab through them. The swords could also mean that they are there to help the person cut through their own difficulties.

For my second project working with American Girl Magazine I had the pleasure of working on another quiz. This one had a TON of illustrations, but they were all super cute, and so much fun to do. The quiz is kind of silly, and it’s like a “would you rather” scenario, hence the name “This or That”. They even let me do the lettering for the title, which was exciting!

Here’s a preview of the spread, click to view it larger.

Here are a few close-ups of my favorite illustrations. I had to revise my first apple/worm because it was too gross and earth wormy. I think that guy is pretty cute though!

Does that coat look familiar? If so, it’s probably because it’s based off the Hollister one I’ve owned since high school. It also made an appearance here in my last American Girl spread!

I just had another spread come out in the most recent issue, and I’m working on a Winter issue now! So much fun!!!
